Elena Waplinger

Mrs. Elena Wonisch de Waplinger, 91, of Cary NC, passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2023, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home. She is survived by her 4 children, Johann, (Wendy-deceased), Peter (Sonja), Elenita (Dave) and Paul (Isabel). She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. 
 
She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 24th, 1932. She married her adoring husband Johann Waplinger on December 2, 1952, and lived in Lima, Peru where they built a life and raised their family for 32 years.  Retiring In 1985, they returned to Argentina (Bariloche).  Upon the passing husband in 2014 she moved to Cary, NC to live with Elenita and Dave to be close to family. While living in Cary, she enjoyed taking English classes and she knitted countless blankets and children’s hats for the ministry at Saint Raphael Church in Raleigh. Elena was also a talented seamstress. She loved watching tennis, soccer, and the Spanish news. Despite her living in Cary, Elena always stayed in touch with her friends around the world through email and written letters. 
 
She was an extraordinary wife, mother, sister, Oma and friend.  Her patience, kindness, compassion, gratitude and love were felt everyday throughout her life.  She will be dearly missed by all of us.
