We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Hattie Pearl Thomas, affectionately known as "HP," who peacefully left us in her Cary, NC home on August 16, 2023. Born on September 13, 1953 in Central Harlem, NYC, Hattie lived a vibrant life filled with joy, authenticity, and soul. Hattie lived life to its fullest, embodying a uniquely comical and down-to-earth spirit that drew everyone around her closer.
Hattie's most significant life lesson that she often shared was that "family is your first best friend." Her strong belief in family values and togetherness was evident in her every action. As a devoted mother, she raised three children (son Terrance Thomas - deceased), passing on her wisdom and life lessons to them. Her legacy is tangible in her children and those whose lives she touched.
Hattie was a survivor, having been diagnosed in 2009 with metastatic stage 4 lung cancer which she later went into remission for a remarkable 14 years. She also had an impeccable work ethic since she was younger having worked in the NYC and Wake County school systems. She was also a successful entrepreneur owning a boutique business and then later went on to independently own a child and senior care business near home. These endeavors allowed her to express her passionate spirit while actively contributing to her community.
Always the life of any gathering, Hattie left behind a legacy of real talk, laughter, smiles, community work, and Motown music sing-alongs. Her energy and spirit were truly infectious and will continue to live in the hearts of those she left behind.
Hattie is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Thomas, of 45 years and beloved daughters, Latoya and Aqiyla Thomas. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Keyauna, Teauna, Sa'naa, Isaiah, brothers, Kenneth and Derrick Graham, sister and brother-in-laws, Ideatha, Pearline, Ermyn, and Reggie Thomas, many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and all of those she cared for in her home and the community. Hattie's love and memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.
The funeral service for Hattie will be held on August 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Albright Funeral Home in Apex, NC not too far from her home in Cary. A public viewing will take place from 1:00 PM -2:00 PM that same day.
As we say our final goodbyes, we express our love for Hattie, promising to cherish her memory and continue her legacy. We love you, HP. Always and forever.
