Mr. Herbert Lee Barbee 89 of Cary, NC passed Sunday, April 25, 2021. Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Lee Barbee will be held 12:00 PM Saturday May 1, 2021 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Morrisville, NC located on 1004 Church Street burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be a viewing for Mr. Herbert Lee Barbee from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Saturday May 1, 2021 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. This service will be live streamed. Mr. Herbert Lee Barbee, Sr.

Herbert Barbee, the youngest and last surviving sibling of the late Levy Barbee, Sr. and Eula Greene Barbee. Herbert was born and raised in Morrisville, NC specifically the Shiloh area. He was born on March 21, 1932 and transferred peacefully in his sleep Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the age of 89.

Herbert received his early education at the Shiloh School located in the Cedar Fork Community. He graduated from Berry O’Kelly High School in Method, NC class of 1951.

Herbert became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until the time of his death. During his long tenure at Shiloh he was a devoted usher, trustee, church financial secretary, treasurer and Superintendent of Sunday School for over 50 years. Herbert was also a member and secretary of the Pleasant Union Masonic Lodge #51. He also enjoyed the daily fellowship with the members of the Over and Under Club which met at the Luther Green Center (aka The Club House) during the week.

Herbert joined the military in the 1950’s where he served as a member of the Air Force for 1 tour.

Herbert married Ida (“Peach”) Arrington in 1952. They purchased their one and only home located on E. Johnson St. in Cary in July of 1956 and had two children, Susan Barbee Reaves (1956) and Herbert Barbee, Jr. (1958).

Herbert was employed with NC Mutual Life Insurance Company, A&P Grocery (retired), Wake County Public School Transportation (retired), and YMCA (retired).

Herbert was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Levy Barbee, Sr., wife Ida Arrington Barbee, Siblings Julius Harrison, William Joseph, Ethel Irene, Levy Jr., and special sister/aunt Lucille Greene Crowe.

Herbert is survived by his children: Susan Reaves (Anthony) and Herbert Barbee, Jr.; two grandchildren Chaneen Reaves and Ahymad Richardson; four great-grandchildren Trinstin, Giovanni, Ayden and Amir Richardson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
