Mrs. Josephine Chavis Canady 85 of Apex, NC passed Saturday, July 11, 2020 funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Albright Funeral Home Chapel 500 S. Salem Street Apex, NC burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens 1530 Creech Rd. Garner, NC. There will be a public viewing for Mrs. Josephine Chavis Canady on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Obituary
Josephine Chavis Canady was born to Lois Chavis Hedgepeth May 29, 1935 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Until the age of 16 years old, Josephine was raised by her grandparents Ernest and Eula Chavis. Josephine transitioned peacefully and entered eternal rest the evening of Saturday, July 11, 2020 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
She was proceeded in death by five sisters, Kathleen Hedgepeth, Juanita Williams, Senora Truesdale, Lois Barnes, Linda Hunter and one child, daughter Elaine Cannady.
Josephine was educated in Wake County at the Crosby-Garfield School. Upon successful completion of her studies, Josephine met James Canady, Sr. They married August 16, 1952 in Raleigh, NC and later relocated to Apex, NC. Josephine begin her career at Apex Manufacturing as a seamstress. She later begun working as a machine operator at Tipper Tie for 30 years until she retired in 1996. Josephine was passionate about her family and community and was the loving mother of six children with her dedicated husband James Canady, Sr.
Josephine was baptized at an early age and joined Apex First Baptist Church, Apex, NC. She loved serving the lord and worshipping the Lord with her brothers and sisters in Christ. As a faithful and devoted member, Josephine served on the Pastor’s Aid, Chancellor’s Choir, Usher Ministry and for many, many years as a Homecoming Captain. Although, she did not serve on the kitchen ministry, everyone loved Josephine’s down-home southern cooking. She was most known for her homemade bar-b-que and scratch made deserts.
Josephine was a loving wife for over 68 years, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many. She will be missed immensely.
Josephine Chavis Canady leaves to cherish her memory: Husband James Canady, Sr. of the home, Children: Bobby Cannady (Peggy), Raleigh, NC, Gloria Byrd, Apex, NC, Brenda Cannady, of the home, James Cannady, Jr., Raleigh, NC, and Sherry Cannady, Cary, NC. Grandchildren: Chandel Boone, Tanya Boone, Toni Boone, Shannon Cannady Pugh (Jerry), Eric Cannady (Sarah), Jessica Cannady, Michelle Wilson (Earl), (11) Great-grandchildren, (two) Great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Clementine Hedgepeth and brother Joseph Hedgepeth of Raleigh, NC. Three Aunts Ernestine Spencer, Raleigh, NC, Bernice McMillian, Greensboro, NC, and special Aunt Helen Chavis, Garner, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close family friends
