Obituary

Willie June Rogers was born on May 20, 1933 to the late Niner Rogers and Epp Denning in Harnett County. “June” was raised by Mr. Lee Elis Rogers who loved, cared, and nurtured him all his life. He had two brothers Chester and Bobby, three sister, Lula Mae, Rose Lee and Elizabeth and his eldest son Louie Glenwood, who all proceeded him in death. Due to an extended illness, June departed this life on December 24, 2020.

In his early years he was very athletic and an extremely hard worker. He loved driving trucks for various local companies, and he enjoyed farming. He raised hogs and chicken, which he shared those skills with his children and later his grand kids. Whether it was chasing pigs or gathering eggs from the hen house he always had chores. He was also an avid gardener and grew a mini rain forest at home. Driving and traveling was his passion. He loved transporting his wife and grand kids or anyone that needed a ride to church if there was space; he never would turn you down. When he was taking long road trips he never got lost no matter what state he was visiting, and that was before GPS. His favorite sports were fishing, boxing, and wresting. As a matter of fact, he would be literally in the ring swinging, sweating and commentating all at the same time sitting on the edge of his seat. It was something to see! Fishing was his ultimate favorite thing to do. He could eat it and it was so relaxing to be at the beautiful coast of NC, which will be his final resting place, as he requested. During his pass time he always loved to discuss the bible and quote scriptures with our mom. He would pull out his reference books, bible and encyclopedia and you knew it was on! Let the debate begin, he didn’t even need Google.

June always enjoyed talking about his life and could tell you some amazing stories and tall tales that would make you laugh until you cried. He never me a stranger. He knew everyone east of the Mississippi River. As his health began to deteriorate, he was such a fighter and never gave up because he had such a strong will to live. His family was by his side to love and support him during these difficult times, asking each other for forgiveness to make wrongs into rights and for strength to endure this path that God has placed us on. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He would always try to out cook mom, making his famous upside-down pineapple cakes. On Christmas Eve, him and God had a conversation because our dad was always trying to find a great deal, so they agreed that his work was done, and it was time to rest. Thank you, Lord for granting his wish. We will always remember this day that you took June home.

June is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 68 years Mary Inell Smith Rogers. She stayed steadfast and committed during their entire marriage. He also leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Angela and grandson, Wesley Rogers of the home. Daughter, Pamela Jones (Walter); son, Donald Rogers (Betty) all of Willow Springs, NC; son Ronald Rogers (Eva) of Raleigh, NC and son, Willie Everette Rogers of Buies Creek, NC: eighteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one goddaughter and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Also, two very special nephews Jimmy Rogers of Wilson, NC and Willie (Dick) Rogers of Washington, D.C.

The family would like to thank everyone for all of their acts of kindness, love, support and prayers. May God Bless you, The Family
